Luna Luna is closed to submissions until OCTOBER 2021.
Before submitting, please read below:
1. Read our policies here. (We are *not* a paying market, which we regret, but we want to be 100% transparent there; we support you getting paid—but if you still want to submit to us, we'd love to have you).
2. Include a bio of some sort in your cover letter, please.
3. Please like/follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
A few notes:
We deeply encourage BIPOC and LGBTQIA writers to send work — on any topic.
Don't worry too much about genre. We don't really believe in it, but we know it makes things easier. If your work spans multiple genres, we won't huff or puff over its categorization.
Please don't submit only 'witchy' work. While we're interested in magic, it doesn't mean you should only send your poems about hemlock.
While we try to personalize our responses to submissions, that just can't always be the case. If you receive a 'form' decline or acceptance, know that we wish we had the capacity to write to each and every one of you personally. We, in most cases, cannot provide feedback on declined work.
Know that we only publish a few pieces a week on an ongoing basis; we do not do monthly issues. We have limited bandwidth, so if we decline your work, please know it is NOT personal.
We appreciate your more than we can express.
THIS FORM IS *ONLY* FOR CURRENT OR FORMER FOSTER YOUTH. Your submission will NOT be read and will be discarded if you are not.
In 2016, 437,465 kids were in foster care. In 2018, thousands of children were forcibly separated from their parents by the American government.
Were you, or are you, in foster care—or are you a foster care advocate? We want you to send us your work to publish: poetry, fiction, a letter to your local government, anything you'd like.
We want to hear your perspective and provide a platform for your voice.
Note: We cannot provide payment at this time, but we will provide support and educational resources.
Our editor Lisa Marie Basile, a former foster youth, will work with you.
We realize that many foster youth experience lasting trauma reactions: constant fight or flight mode, depression+anxiety, & physiological issues—and we want to recognize & give voice to that struggle.
We also recognize, more importantly, that foster youth are resilient, creative, kind, successful, and inspiring. At Luna Luna, we believe that encouragement, positive messaging, love, inclusion, and compassion is critical.
If you’re a foster parent, get in touch. If you’re a former youth, reach out.
We love you.
